The American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS) Gulf South Region (Louisiana & Texas) will hold its 3^rd Annual Business Meeting & Geospatial Conference April 29^th, and 30^th 2024 at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana. The Annual Business Meeting will be held Sunday evening, April 28^th followed by a networking mixer. Please see the full schedule below.

This in-person event will feature geospatial technical sessions, a 4-hour ASPRS Certification Workshop, a Geospatial Experts Panel, Student Project showcase, and an abundance of networking opportunities for attendees and sponsors. Attendees will receive one (1) Professional Development Hour (PDH) for each technical session they attend. 

The Objectives of the Gulf South Region include advancing knowledge in imaging and geospatial information within the Region, so with that idea in mind we are working on an agenda for 2024 that will support this mission. Proceeds from this event, minus expenses, go to the Gulf South Region Education Fund.

Preparation for ASPRS Certification Workshop

This workshop covers the common knowledge areas comprising a large portion of exam content for ASPRS Certification. It is valuable preparation for those who have never taken an ASPRS exam, as well as for those who have expertise in a particular specialty, such as lidar or UAS, but feel less prepared for the general knowledge component of the exam. This workshop will also explain the certification application process and the importance of certification in career development. 

Registering for the Preparation for Certification Workshop DOES NOT include access to the main conference events, sessions, or meals. 

Featuring: Harold Rempel, ESP Associates

Harold Rempel is the senior geospatial manager at ESP Associates’ home office in Fort Mill, SC and is a licensed Surveyor Photogrammetrist in Virginia, a Professional Photogrammetrist in Oregon, an ASPRS Certified Photogrammetrist and Certified Mapping Scientist-Lidar, and a certified Geographic Information Systems Professional. Mr. Rempel began his career as an intelligence analyst in the United States Marine Corps working with multiple, remote sensing technologies on national and tactical platforms. Mr. Rempel has nearly three decades of experience in lidar, remote sensing, photogrammetric mapping and project management. Mr. Rempel specializes in collaborating with project stakeholders in developing technical specifications, managing Quality Control and Quality Assurance, and providing comprehensive management solutions to large mapping projects. He co-authored FEMA‘s “Procedure Memorandum 61-Standards for Lidar and Other High Quality Digital Topography“, one of the first attempts by FEMA and the USGS to coordinate specifications for lidar and topographic products. Since 1997, he has served in a variety of positions including project coordinator, project manager, production manager for work on the first North Carolina statewide lidar program, director of project management, and operations manager. He is currently serving on the ASPRS Board of Directors as Secretary.
