  • 1.  LWG meeting next week! (Jun 19 2025)

    The June 2025 LWG meeting is scheduled for next Thursday 6/19 at 11:00am PDT / 2:00pm EDT. Zoom info is on the event page and repeated below at the end of this post. I expect to provide an update on the LAS 1.4 R16 draft and review the public comments on the LAS 1.5 draft.

    1. April 23, 2025: Begin LAS 1.5 public comment period.
    2. May 30, 2025: End LAS 1.5 public comment period.
    3. May 2025: Submit final LAS 1.4 R16 draft for ASPRS Board approval.
    4. June 19, 2025: LWG meeting: Integrate LAS 1.5 public comments and prepare for publication.
    5. June 2025: Final publication of LAS 1.4 R16. Submit final LAS 1.5 draft for ASPRS Board approval.
    6. July 17, 2025: LWG meeting: Open ticket discussions, HTML-format publication.
    7. July 2025: Final publication of LAS 1.5.
    8. Q3 2025: Submit to OGC for endorsement/publication.

    Thanks Howard for running the meeting in my unexpected absence last month! Here's a link to the brief recording.

    Here are my updates in written form:

    1. LAS 1.4 R16 has been submitted to the ASPRS board for final approval. 
    2. LAS 1.5 edits from public comment period are underway. I'm (still) about halfway through.
    3. Main discussion point around 1.5 is whether the two WKT sections should be combined. They were split in 1.4 because one was a lengthy discussion about GeoTIFF vs WKT but that's obviously no longer needed in 1.5.
    4. OGC is on board with adopting the next updates of LAS in the next member meeting in Boulder (Oct 28-31, 2025)
