Since the late 1970s, she has conducted research combining remote sensing and geospatial analyses with landscape ecology, particularly focused on vegetation mapping and human-animal-environment interactions. Joining the UGA-LRMS in 1985 as a Graduate Research Assistant (1895-1990), she was a CRMS Postdoctoral Researcher (1990-1991) and Research Scientist (1991-2004) helping to develop and analyze numerous multi-temporal and detailed vegetation databases for local, state and national conservation lands throughout the Southeastern United States. When Dr. Deepak Mishra took over as CGR Director in 2024, she turned her focus to CGR education and outreach. She teaches Aerial Photographs and Image Interpretation and co-teaches with Dr. Mishra two graduate seminars, Geospatial Techniques in Landscape Analysis and Advanced Remote Sensing of Environment. She has also taught Introduction to Geographic Information Science, Remote Sensing of Environment and this Fall will co-teach Field and Lab Methods in Remote Sensing with Dr. Abhishek Kumar. Since 2005, she has served as major advisor to 27 Ph.D. and 25 M.S. students in the Geography graduate program.
