Dr. Colin Brooks has over 30 years of experience in the application of remote sensing and GIS technologies to the modeling and understanding of environmental processes and transportation systems. He is a Transportation Practice Area leader and Senior Research Scientist for the Michigan Tech Research Institute (MTRI), a research center of Michigan Technological University. He is also a Principal Investigator for MTRI Inc., a small business startup focused on commercializing advanced remote sensing research of the University, where he led development of the Crossing-i drone-enabled rail grade crossing inspection system. He has led research projects on bridge condition assessment, unpaved road condition evaluation, mapping of invasive aquatic plants, bridge scour, infrastructure inspection with uncrewed aerial systems, slope stability assessment, power plant risk assessment, rail network modeling, and decision support systems. He has a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from Michigan Technological University, a Master’s Degree in Environmental Management from Duke University, and a Bachelor of Science in Pre-Forestry from Lenoir-Rhyne College.
