    The LAS Working Group (LWG) seeks public comment for LAS 1.4 Revision 16. The most recent draft is available here:

    Comment Period

    Per ASPRS bylaws, the public comment period will last at least 30 days, beginning approximately April 9th, 2025. 

    Comments will be due by May 15, 2025 and incorporated into the specification by the LWG. The final version will be submitted to the ASPRS Board of Directors for final approval and publication.

    How to Comment

    Any member of the public is welcome to contribute changes, corrections, or comments during the public comment period. 

    When commenting, please provide enough context for us to identify the section being commented on by providing section numbers, page number, a commented PDF, and/or screenshots.

    You can submit comments using any of three methods:

    1. Users with a GitHub account may contribute comments directly on this Issue thread: GitHub Issue 159
    2. ASPRS members may contribute comments on this Discussion page.
    3. Anyone can email the LWG directly at las@asprs.org

    I already got my first public comment from the ASPRS office, which resulted in an update to the address and phone number for the ASPRS office.

    The public comment period for Revision 16 of the LAS 1.4 specification has now ended. A few small changes have been incorporated into the "v3/final" draft as a result of the public comment period:

    1. "Code" formatting now correctly uses the courier font.
    2. Reduced font size from 12pt to 11pt
    3. Bits 5-7 of the option Bit Field of the ExtraBytes VLR (table 25) are now unambiguously marked as Reserved

    "Draft" markings have been removed with June 2025 placeholders added for final publication This is the final draft of the PDF that I intend to submit to the ASPRS Board of Directors for final approval:

    You have until 5pm PST on May 22, 2025 to request edits.
