Welcome to the ASPRS 2025 ITS Session on Digital Twin (DT) and 3D Spatiotemporal Modeling
Digital twin (DT) and 3D spatiotemporal modeling are rapidly evolving technologies that are reshaping how we approach disaster response, urban planning, and long-term resilience. A digital twin enables dynamic virtual replication of a physical system or environment, continuously updated with near real-time data from sensors, IoT devices, and other sources. Meanwhile, the advancements in geospatial techniques have enabled the creation of three-dimensional spatial datasets that capture temporal changes with high fidelity and precision.
When integrated, DTs and 3D spatiotemporal models offer immersive, interactive environments that reflect both current conditions and projected futures. These platforms empower researchers and decision-makers to develop data-driven, actionable solutions that enhance situational awareness across a range of domains, including disaster response, urban infrastructure, and supply chain management. Despite their promise, many key areas require further research, including improving the scalability and adaptability of these models, and advancing uncertainty quantification to ensure their relevance, reliability, and trustworthiness in real-world applications.
I look forward to learning how your work contributes to this evolving field and helps push the boundaries of innovation.
Best,
Bandana
