Bio

My Name is Richard Allen, and I am currently Orlando’s City Surveyor. I have worked for the City of Orlando for 18 years and have been in the surveying profession for over 26 years. For the past eight years I have led the Surveying Section for the City under the direction of the City Engineer and Public Works Director. During this time I became a Certified Floodplain Manager, through ASFPM (Association of State Floodplain Managers) and an Federal Aviation Administration Part 107 Certified Drone Pilot. In addition, I am currently Region V Director (Central Florida) for the Florida Floodplain Managers Association, Surveyors in Government Liaison for the Florida Surveying and Mapping Society, President of the Geospatial Users Group for the Florida Surveying and Mapping Society. I am also teaching surveying and drafting classes at Valencia State College, which currently this semester I am teaching: Basic Survey Measurements, Subdivisions, and Advanced Survey Computations. In the past I have been President of the Central Florida Chapter of the Florida Surveying and Mapping Society and held many other positions for the purpose of being involved with the betterment of the professions upon which I am able to be a participant. ASPRS is an association that I have been involved with in concern to attending the workshops, but I would like to be able to help more with this excellent group. We are stronger together, more informed, and better prepared, and this group epitomizes that sentiment.
