  • 1.  LWG meeting next week! (Mar 20 2025)

    The March 2025 LWG meeting will be on Thursday 3/20 at 11:00am PST / 2:00pm EST. Zoom info is on the event page and repeated below at the end of this post. I expect to present the final LAS 1.5 draft for publication and perform any final editorial reviews. Yes, this means I'm behind schedule -- the editorial updates required more time than I expected. I do think we will still hit our Summer 2025 deadline, however.

    If you have time, there is one open issue remaining for LAS 1.5 and I could use some input there: Clarification of Classification Lookup VLR · Issue #82 · ASPRSorg/LAS

    Here's the updated LAS 1.5 publication schedule:

    1. Dec 19 LWG Virtual Meeting: Begin internal review of LAS 1.5 draft.
    2. Jan 16 LWG Virtual Meeting: Complete internal review of LAS 1.5 draft.
    3. Feb 12 1-2pm GeoWeek in-person meeting: public comment period begins for LAS 1.5 draft, with email announcement AND in-person meeting at GeoWeek.
    4. Feb 20, 2025 LWG Virtual Meeting: Begin integration of public comments, GeoWeek recap.
    5. Mar 20, 2025 LWG Virtual Meeting: Finalize edits for LAS 1.5. 
    6. End of March, 2025: Begin public comment period.
    7. April 2025: End public comment period. Integrate public comments.
    8. May 2025: Prepare for publication and submit final draft for ASPRS Board approval.
    9. June 2025: Final publication
    10. Q3 2025: Submit to OGC for endorsement/publication.

    Small group this month, but we accomplished a lot! Here's a list of the quick hits:

    1. LAS 1.4 R16 is nearly ready to submit for public comment! It should make it out in next week's ASPRS News on 3/26. Here's a link to the latest build.
    2. LAS 1.5 has its last outstanding issue resolved with a conclusion to the conversation about how to handle the Classification Lookup VLR. This will be merged to the final draft next week unless I hear objections.
    3. Both drafts need some light editing to fix up table formatting.
    4. LAS 1.5 has some final editorial review to complete and then it'll be ready to submit as well, a week or two after LAS 1.4 R16. Here's a link to my checklist.
